What we install

ICT Services in detail

About this service

Connectivity is rarely the only thing a business needs from a technology supplier. The same organisations we run fibre into also need a website that brings in enquiries, an office network that does not drop, machines that work, and someone to ask before committing to a purchase.

Wave Fiber Technologies provides those services from the same team and the same support line as the connectivity and security work, which means one supplier who already understands your site rather than three who each blame the other two when something stops working.

A designer laying out a web page on a laptop screen

Web design and development

We design and build websites for Kenyan businesses, from a straightforward site that establishes credibility and answers what a customer needs to know, through to online stores and custom web applications built around how a business actually works.

Website hosting and business email

Hosting for business websites, with the domain, the SSL certificate and email on your own domain handled as one arrangement rather than three separate accounts nobody can find the logins for.

Performance analytics charts on a laptop screen

Digital marketing and SEO

Search optimisation, paid advertising, social media and content, for businesses that want the website they paid for to actually bring in enquiries.

Office network and WiFi setup

The active side of an office network: the switches, the wireless access points and the configuration that turns cabling into something staff can actually work on. The cable runs themselves are covered under Fibre and cabling; this is everything that plugs into them.

A team meeting around a table in a corporate office

ICT consultancy

Advice on the technology a business runs on, for organisations that need a decision made properly rather than a product sold to them: what to buy, what to keep, what to replace, and in what order.

Computer repair and maintenance

Repair, upgrade and servicing for desktops and laptops, for households with one machine and for offices running a fleet of them.

Operating system and software installation

Operating system installation and reinstallation, driver setup and business software configuration, for Windows and macOS machines individually or across an office.

Podcast and studio setup

Design and installation of podcast and small broadcast studios - microphones, mixing, acoustic treatment, cameras and the connectivity to stream or upload what you record.

Questions, pricing and support

Will I be able to update the site myself?

Yes. Sites are built so that text, images, prices and pages can be changed by someone non-technical, and the handover includes training on doing it. Coming back to your developer to correct a typo is a cost nobody should be paying.

Do you handle the domain and business email as well?

We do. Domain registration, business email on your own domain and hosting can all be set up alongside the site, which avoids the common situation where a business cannot move its own website because nobody knows who controls the domain.

How long does a website take?

The build is rarely what sets the timeline - waiting on content usually is. Where text, photographs and product details are ready at the start, a straightforward business site moves quickly; where they are being written as we go, that is the part worth planning around.

Can you move a site that is already hosted somewhere else?

Yes. The site is copied across and tested on the new hosting before the domain is pointed at it, so the switchover happens once everything is confirmed working rather than with visitors watching.

Who owns the domain name?

You do. Domains are registered in the business name with your details as the registrant. A domain registered in a supplier name is a problem that only surfaces when the relationship ends, and it is entirely avoidable.

What happens if the site goes down?

Call the support line. Where the cause is the hosting we fix it; where it is a change made to the site, a recent backup means it can be restored to how it was before rather than rebuilt from memory.

How long before we see results from SEO?

Months rather than weeks, and anyone promising otherwise is either buying traffic or taking a risk with your domain. Paid advertising is what produces enquiries quickly, which is why the two are usually run together.

Can you guarantee first position on Google?

No, and neither can anyone else - rankings are set by Google, not by suppliers. What can be committed to is the work that reliably improves visibility, and reporting honest enough to show whether it did.

Do we have to commit monthly?

Not necessarily. An audit and a round of corrections can be taken as a one-off project, and plenty of businesses start there. Ongoing work suits you if you want campaigns actively managed rather than set up and left.

How is this different from the structured cabling service?

Cabling is the physical layer - the runs, the terminations and the patch panel. This is what connects to it: the switches, the wireless and the configuration. Many offices need both, and they are quoted separately so you can see the split.

Can you improve WiFi coverage without recabling the office?

Often yes. Where cabling is already sound, repositioning access points and planning channels properly fixes a great many coverage complaints. The survey establishes which situation you are in before anything is quoted.

Can visitors be kept off our internal systems?

Yes, and they should be. Guest traffic is separated onto its own network so visitors reach the internet without reaching your file shares, cameras or accounting systems.

Will you recommend equipment you also sell?

Sometimes, and where that is the case we say so plainly in the recommendation. The plan is written so it can be taken to any supplier - if the advice is only valid when we are the ones delivering it, it is not advice.

We are a small organisation. Is this relevant to us?

The smaller the team, the more often it is one person holding all the passwords and all the knowledge, which is a real continuity risk. A short review that documents what exists and confirms the backups actually restore is worth having well before an organisation feels large enough to need consultancy.

What does the audit actually cover?

Connectivity, network equipment, servers and storage, backup and restore, software licensing, and who holds access to which systems. The scope is agreed before we start, so the report answers the questions you needed answered.

Will I lose my files?

Data is backed up before any work that could put it at risk, and where a drive has already failed, recovery is attempted before anything else. Tell us at drop-off which files matter most so they are prioritised.

Is it worth repairing an older laptop?

Often yes, and the diagnosis tells you. A drive or memory upgrade on an otherwise sound machine is usually worth doing; a failed mainboard on a machine of the same age usually is not, and we will say so rather than quote for it.

Do you service office machines on site?

Yes, for offices with a number of machines it is usually less disruptive to work on site. Anything needing bench work or parts is taken away and returned.

Will my files and email still be there afterwards?

They are backed up before the installation and restored after it, and the backup is checked rather than assumed. Tell us which accounts and folders matter so nothing is missed.

Do you supply the software licences?

Licences are yours to hold and are quoted separately from our work. We will advise on what is needed and record the keys at handover, but we do not install unlicensed software - it puts the business at risk, not us.

Can you set up several office machines the same way?

Yes, and it is worth doing. A standard build across machines means staff move between them without relearning anything, and every later support call is faster because the engineer already knows what is on the machine.

Do we need a dedicated room?

It helps, but it is not essential. Many workable studios are built in a room that has another use, with treatment designed to be unobtrusive. The assessment tells you what a given room can realistically achieve before you commit to it.

Can you set us up for live streaming as well as recording?

Yes, and the connectivity is part of the design rather than an afterthought. Streaming needs sustained upload, which is a different requirement from the download figure most internet packages advertise.

What if we want to expand later?

Say so at the assessment and the cabling and interfaces are specified with the headroom to add participants or cameras later, which is far cheaper than rebuilding a studio that was scoped exactly to its first configuration.

Web design and development

Quoted per project after the discovery session, because a five page company site and an online store with stock and payments are different pieces of work. The quote separates the build from the recurring costs - hosting, domain and any ongoing support - so you can see what is one-off and what repeats annually.

Sites are handed over with training so you can edit your own copy and images. Hosting, domain renewal and security updates can be handled by us on an ongoing basis or passed to your own team, and the quote says which. If something breaks, call the support line rather than the person who happened to build it, so a fault is picked up whether or not that engineer is available.

Website hosting and business email

Billed annually and quoted on the size of the site and the number of mailboxes. Domain renewal is a separate annual cost set by the registry rather than by us, and is stated separately so you can see which part of the renewal is which.

Certificates and backups are monitored rather than left to run until someone notices a browser warning. A site that is down is a support line call at any hour, and restoring from backup is part of the service rather than a chargeable rescue. Control panel credentials are registered in your name, so you can move the site elsewhere without needing our cooperation - which is the position every business should be in with its own domain.

Digital marketing and SEO

Retained monthly against an agreed scope, with advertising budget separate and paid directly to the platform rather than through us, so you can see exactly what is fee and what is spend. One-off audits and corrections can be quoted as a project if you would rather start there than commit to a retainer.

Reporting is monthly and written in enquiries and cost per enquiry, because those are the numbers a business can act on. Analytics access is set up in your own account rather than ours, so the data stays yours if the arrangement ends - the same principle we apply to domains and hosting.

Office network and WiFi setup

Quoted per site after the survey, driven by the number of devices and the area that needs wireless coverage. Hardware and labour are quoted separately so you can see which part changes if the device count does. Where cabling is also needed it is quoted under Fibre and cabling rather than folded in here.

Coverage is verified on site before handover and the results are part of the documentation, so a complaint months later can be checked against how the network performed on day one. Hardware carries manufacturer warranty. Because the configuration is documented, a fault is usually isolated remotely before anyone needs to travel to you.

ICT consultancy

Quoted per engagement against an agreed scope, since a single-site review and a multi-branch assessment are different pieces of work. Where the recommendation involves equipment or installation we can quote that separately, and you are free to take the plan and have it delivered by someone else.

The audit and the plan are handed over as documents you keep, not a presentation that disappears when the meeting ends. Where we go on to implement, the same plan is what the work is measured against. Organisations commonly repeat the review annually, and the second one is faster because the inventory already exists.

Computer repair and maintenance

Diagnosis is quoted separately from the repair, and the repair is only quoted once the fault is confirmed. Parts are quoted at the price we can source them for on the day, since component prices move. Where the repair is not worth doing against the value of the machine, we tell you that instead of quoting it.

Replacement parts carry the supplier warranty and labour is guaranteed against the same fault recurring. Offices with several machines can arrange scheduled maintenance rather than reporting failures one at a time, which tends to catch failing drives and swollen batteries before they take a working day with them.

Operating system and software installation

Quoted per machine, with a lower rate per machine where several are done together to one standard build. Software licences are your own cost and are quoted separately from our labour, so you can see which is which. We do not supply unlicensed software.

Licence keys and the build details are documented and handed over, so a future reinstallation does not start from nothing. Where a machine develops the same fault again shortly afterwards, that is treated as unfinished work rather than a new job, because a fault that returns immediately was usually a hardware problem the reinstallation was never going to fix.

Podcast and studio setup

Quoted per studio after the room assessment, because the room decides most of it. A small treated room for two people and a multi-camera video setup are different projects. Treatment, equipment and installation are quoted separately so you can stage the build across budgets if you would rather start with the room.

Handover includes training, because a studio nobody knows how to run is an expensive store room. Settings are documented so levels can be restored if something is moved or changed. Equipment carries manufacturer warranty, and support line calls cover both faults and the "it sounds different today" questions, which are usually a setting rather than a failure.
