Office network and WiFi setup
The active side of an office network: the switches, the wireless access points and the configuration that turns cabling into something staff can actually work on. The cable runs themselves are covered under Fibre and cabling; this is everything that plugs into them.
What this is
The active side of an office network: the switches, the wireless access points and the configuration that turns cabling into something staff can actually work on. The cable runs themselves are covered under Fibre and cabling; this is everything that plugs into them.
Most office network complaints that get blamed on the internet connection are actually the local network. One consumer router serving thirty desks, switches daisy chained until the uplink is saturated, or wireless access points placed where there happened to be a power socket all produce the same symptom - things are slow, intermittently, and nobody can say why. Fixing that is usually cheaper than the bandwidth upgrade bought to solve a problem bandwidth was never causing.
Wireless is planned from a survey rather than by guesswork, because coverage is decided by the building as much as by the hardware. Access points are positioned and their channels set so they complement each other instead of competing, which is the difference between a device that roams cleanly across an office and one that clings to a distant access point at one bar.
What is included
- Switches sized for the device count, with PoE where access points need it
- Wireless access points positioned by site survey, with channel planning
- Network segmentation so guest traffic is kept off business systems
- A single sign-on WiFi network across the office rather than one per room
- Configuration documented and handed over with the network

How it works
From first call to handover
Survey covering floor layout, device count and where people actually sit
Design of switching, wireless coverage and network separation
Hardware installed and configured against the agreed design
Coverage verified by walking the site, not assumed from the plan
Handover with the configuration and coverage results documented
Pricing
How this is billed
Quoted per site after the survey, driven by the number of devices and the area that needs wireless coverage. Hardware and labour are quoted separately so you can see which part changes if the device count does. Where cabling is also needed it is quoted under Fibre and cabling rather than folded in here.
After installation
Support and servicing
Coverage is verified on site before handover and the results are part of the documentation, so a complaint months later can be checked against how the network performed on day one. Hardware carries manufacturer warranty. Because the configuration is documented, a fault is usually isolated remotely before anyone needs to travel to you.
Questions
What people ask before booking
- How is this different from the structured cabling service?
- Cabling is the physical layer - the runs, the terminations and the patch panel. This is what connects to it: the switches, the wireless and the configuration. Many offices need both, and they are quoted separately so you can see the split.
- Can you improve WiFi coverage without recabling the office?
- Often yes. Where cabling is already sound, repositioning access points and planning channels properly fixes a great many coverage complaints. The survey establishes which situation you are in before anything is quoted.
- Can visitors be kept off our internal systems?
- Yes, and they should be. Guest traffic is separated onto its own network so visitors reach the internet without reaching your file shares, cameras or accounting systems.
