What this is
Advice on the technology a business runs on, for organisations that need a decision made properly rather than a product sold to them: what to buy, what to keep, what to replace, and in what order.
The work usually starts with an audit of what is already in place - connectivity, servers, storage, backups, licensing and who has access to what. That inventory is often the deliverable that changes the most, because a surprising number of organisations discover they are paying for systems nobody uses, or that the backup everyone assumed was running has not completed in months.
From there we set out a plan in the order that makes sense: what needs fixing now because it is a live risk, what can wait for the next budget cycle, and what should simply be retired. Recommendations name the trade-offs rather than presenting one option as obvious, because the right answer for a thirty person office is rarely the right answer for a five branch operation, and you should be able to see why.
What is included
- Audit of existing infrastructure, licensing, access and backups
- A prioritised plan separating live risks from planned improvements
- Independent procurement advice, with the trade-offs stated
- Backup and continuity review - whether it works, not whether it is switched on
- Access and permissions review across systems and staff

How it works
From first call to handover
Scoping conversation to agree what the review needs to answer
On-site audit of infrastructure, systems and current arrangements
Findings documented with risks ranked by likelihood and impact
Recommendations presented with costs, options and sequencing
Optional support through implementation
Pricing
How this is billed
Quoted per engagement against an agreed scope, since a single-site review and a multi-branch assessment are different pieces of work. Where the recommendation involves equipment or installation we can quote that separately, and you are free to take the plan and have it delivered by someone else.
After installation
Support and servicing
The audit and the plan are handed over as documents you keep, not a presentation that disappears when the meeting ends. Where we go on to implement, the same plan is what the work is measured against. Organisations commonly repeat the review annually, and the second one is faster because the inventory already exists.
Questions
What people ask before booking
- Will you recommend equipment you also sell?
- Sometimes, and where that is the case we say so plainly in the recommendation. The plan is written so it can be taken to any supplier - if the advice is only valid when we are the ones delivering it, it is not advice.
- We are a small organisation. Is this relevant to us?
- The smaller the team, the more often it is one person holding all the passwords and all the knowledge, which is a real continuity risk. A short review that documents what exists and confirms the backups actually restore is worth having well before an organisation feels large enough to need consultancy.
- What does the audit actually cover?
- Connectivity, network equipment, servers and storage, backup and restore, software licensing, and who holds access to which systems. The scope is agreed before we start, so the report answers the questions you needed answered.
