What we install

Security Systems in detail

About this service

Security is not a single product, it is a system. Wave Fiber Technologies designs and installs integrated security solutions that combine surveillance, perimeter protection and access control, so every entry point on your property is accounted for.

From a family home to a corporate campus, we scope, install and maintain systems built around how your property is actually used.

9offerings installed and supported under this service

Surveilance camera

CCTV camera installation

Round the clock surveillance for homes, offices, warehouses, retail shops, schools and gated estates. We install and configure CCTV systems that you can monitor from your phone wherever you are, with footage stored for review when you need it.

Electric fence installation

Perimeter protection that acts as a strong first line of defense against intrusion. Our electric fence systems are installed to Kenyan safety standards, with clear signage and controlled voltage output, and can be paired with alarm monitoring for immediate alerts if the fence is tampered with.

A wall mounted fire and alarm call point with a break glass panel

Alarm systems

Motion sensors, door and window contacts, and panic buttons connected to a central alarm panel that alerts you and your security provider the moment something is wrong. Alarm systems are especially effective when paired with CCTV and electric fencing for layered protection.

Intrusion detection systems

Beyond basic alarms, we install dedicated intrusion detection systems for properties that need a higher level of perimeter awareness, including beam sensors, fence mounted detectors and zone based monitoring that pinpoints exactly where a breach has occurred.

A closed geometric metal gate between two buildings

Automated gates

Motorized sliding and swing gates for homes, estates and corporate premises, controlled by remote, keypad or integrated access card systems. Automated gates improve both convenience and security by controlling exactly who can enter your property and when.

Biometric access control

Fingerprint and facial recognition access systems for gates, doors and secure areas, replacing keys and access cards with credentials that cannot be lost, shared or duplicated. Biometric systems are widely used in offices, hotels, gated estates and institutions that need reliable attendance and access records.

A card reader mounted beside a controlled door in a stairwell

RFID card access systems

Card based access control for gates, turnstiles, parking areas and building entrances, ideal for estates, corporate offices, hotels and institutions managing large numbers of residents, staff or guests.

Smart locks

Keyless door locks for homes, offices, rentals and short-let properties, opened by code, card, fingerprint or phone, and managed without cutting a new key every time someone joins or leaves.

Questions, pricing and support

Do the cameras keep recording if my internet goes down?

Yes, if you have a local recorder on site. It records to its own storage regardless of your internet connection, and simply cannot be viewed remotely until the connection is back. Cloud-only systems stop recording during an outage, which is why we recommend local storage as at least part of the setup.

How long is footage kept before it is overwritten?

It depends on the storage size you choose and how many cameras are recording at once, and we work this out with you at the survey based on how far back you would realistically need to look. Two to four weeks is typical for a local recorder on a standard household system.

Can I add more cameras later?

Yes. Most recorders are installed with spare channels, and we design the initial system knowing a client often adds a camera or two once they see what the coverage actually looks like on site.

Is an electric fence safe around children and pets?

Installed to the standard we work to, the pulse is a short, controlled shock meant to deter, not injure, and is the same technology used on farm and residential perimeters across the country. Signage is required and fitted as standard so anyone approaching the fence is warned before contact.

What happens to the fence during a power cut?

The energizer runs on battery backup, so a short outage does not take the fence down. For longer outages the battery is sized at installation to a runtime we agree with you based on how long outages tend to run in your area.

Can you repair a fence someone else installed?

Yes. We inspect it the same way we would a fence we are quoting from scratch, confirm whether it meets the compliant voltage and signage standard, and quote the repair or the parts of it that need bringing up to standard.

What happens when the alarm is triggered?

The panel sounds the on site siren where fitted, and sends an alert to your phone through the mobile app. If you have connected a monitoring service, it also notifies them, and their own response process takes over from there.

Do I need a monitoring service, or is the mobile alert enough?

For most homes, a mobile alert to you and to a neighbour or family member is enough. A monitoring service adds a third party watching around the clock and a dispatched response, which matters more for a property that is often empty or a business with stock on site.

How often do wireless sensor batteries need replacing?

Typically once every one to two years depending on the sensor and how often it triggers. The panel reports a low battery well before it fails, so it is a planned replacement, not a surprise.

What is the difference between this and a standard alarm system?

A standard alarm tells you the perimeter has been breached. A zoned intrusion system tells you which section, which matters once a property has more than one side or gate to check, and integrates with CCTV so the right camera starts recording automatically the moment a zone trips.

Can beam sensors give false alarms from animals or weather?

A stray animal can break a low beam, which is why beam height and sensitivity are set at installation based on what actually crosses the site. Heavy rain or dust can also affect some beam types, which we account for when choosing equipment for an outdoor Kenyan install rather than a sheltered one.

Does this need its own control panel, or can it use an existing alarm?

It can integrate with an alarm panel already installed, ours or from another installer, provided that panel supports zoned inputs. Where it does not, we fit a dedicated zone controller alongside it.

Will the gate still work during a power cut?

With backup power fitted, which we recommend and install as standard, yes. Without it the gate can usually still be released and pushed open by hand using a manual release the motor is fitted with, which we show you at handover.

Can you automate a gate I already have?

In most cases yes. We inspect the existing gate to confirm it is structurally sound enough to carry a motor and moves freely on its track or hinges, then fit the motor and controls to it rather than replacing the gate itself.

How many remotes can be programmed to one gate?

Most controllers support a large number of remotes, well beyond what a household or small office needs, so adding a remote for a new family member or staff member later is a quick call, not a reinstall.

What happens if someone cuts their finger or their print will not read?

Every user is enrolled with more than one finger where the reader supports it, and most systems fall back to a PIN or a card for exactly this reason, so a temporary injury does not lock anyone out.

Can access be different for different people, like staff versus visitors?

Yes. Users are set up in groups with their own permitted doors and hours, so a cleaner can be given access only during working hours and a visitor a single temporary credential, without touching anyone else's access.

Does the system keep a record of who came and went?

Yes, that log is one of the reasons institutions choose biometric over cards: every entry is tied to the actual person, and the log can be exported for attendance or security review.

What happens if a resident or staff member loses their card?

Deactivate the lost card in the management system and issue a new one. The lost card stops working the moment it is deactivated, so there is no window where a found or stolen card still opens anything.

Can visitor cards be set to expire automatically?

Yes, that is the standard way to handle a guest or contractor: the card is issued with an expiry, a single day or a set number of visits, and stops working on its own without anyone having to remember to deactivate it.

Does this work with the automated gates you install?

Yes, a card reader is one of the standard ways to trigger an automated gate we fit, alongside remote and keypad access, so a resident or staff card can open both the gate and a building door on the same credential.

What happens if the battery dies while I am out?

The lock warns for a long period before it fails, and every lock we fit keeps a mechanical key override for the case where the warnings were missed. Some models also accept an external power pack at the door to get you in.

Can I give a cleaner or guest access without giving them a key?

Yes. Issue a code that works only on certain days or for a fixed period, and it expires on its own. The access log then shows when it was used, which is the part landlords and short-let hosts tend to value most.

Can it be fitted to my existing door?

Usually, but the survey confirms it. Door thickness, the handing of the door and the existing lock case all determine which models fit, which is why we check before quoting rather than after arriving with a lock.

Will the detector alarm on phones and keys?

That depends on where sensitivity is set, which is a decision made with you at calibration. Most entrances settle on a level that ignores everyday pocket items and reacts to larger metal objects, because a detector that alarms constantly is one guards quickly learn to wave people through.

Is it safe for people with pacemakers or for pregnant women?

Walk-through detectors use a low-intensity magnetic field rather than radiation. Manufacturers publish guidance on medical devices, which we hand over with the unit, and most sites also keep a hand-held scanner so anyone who prefers not to walk through can be screened separately.

Does it need its own power supply?

It needs a mains connection at the entrance, which is part of the installation. Battery backup can be specified so screening continues through an outage, which matters where the detector is the only thing controlling entry.

CCTV camera installation

Priced per camera after the site survey, since the number of cameras, the cable run and the storage option chosen all change the total. The survey is where we confirm blind spots and give you a fixed quote before any work starts.

Cameras and recorders are covered by the manufacturer warranty on the equipment, and our team services what we install. If a camera stops recording, drops offline, or footage looks wrong, call the support line on the footer and we will diagnose the fault, remotely first where that is possible and on site where it is not.

Electric fence installation

Priced per metre of perimeter once the survey confirms the fence length, the number of corners and gates, and whether monitoring is added. Existing fences from another installer are quoted for repair the same way, after an inspection.

The energizer and wiring are covered by warranty on the equipment we supply. Battery backups need periodic replacement as any battery does, and we flag that at handover rather than let it fail silently. Call the support line if the fence trips, stops holding voltage, or the tamper alert misfires.

Alarm systems

Priced on the number of sensors and entry points covered, confirmed at the site survey. Connection to a monitoring service, where you want one, is a separate monthly charge quoted by the monitoring provider, not by us.

The panel and sensors carry the manufacturer warranty, and wireless sensor batteries are a low, occasional replacement cost we tell you about at handover rather than leave you to discover. Call the support line for a false alarm you cannot clear, a sensor that has stopped reporting, or a panel fault.

Intrusion detection systems

Priced by zone and detector count, confirmed at the site survey. A property already fenced by us is usually cheaper to fit, since the fence run is already mapped.

Detectors and the zone controller carry the manufacturer warranty. Beam sensors need their alignment checked occasionally, since a knocked post or a growing hedge can throw off a beam that was correctly aligned at installation. Call the support line for a zone reporting faults, or a false trigger you cannot trace.

Automated gates

Priced against the gate itself, since a heavy steel gate needs a stronger motor than a light one. The site survey weighs and measures the gate before we quote, so the figure reflects your gate and not an average one.

Motors carry the manufacturer warranty, and we service what we install, including gates we did not originally fit where the motor and gearing are compatible. Call the support line for a gate that has slowed down, stopped responding to remotes, or is not opening fully.

Biometric access control

Priced per reader plus the enrolment work, confirmed at the site survey. Larger user counts, for an estate or an institution, are quoted as a bulk enrolment rate rather than a per person charge.

Readers carry the manufacturer warranty, and enrolment software issues, such as a fingerprint that stops reading reliably, are usually a re-enrolment rather than a hardware fault. Call the support line for a reader not responding, a locked out user, or an access log that looks wrong.

RFID card access systems

Priced per reader plus the card stock and management system, confirmed at the site survey. An estate or institution issuing large numbers of cards is quoted a bulk rate on the cards themselves.

Readers and barriers carry the manufacturer warranty. Cards themselves are a consumable, replaced individually as they are lost or damaged rather than under warranty, and reissuing one takes minutes once your reception team is trained on the management system. Call the support line for a reader fault or a barrier that will not lift.

Smart locks

Quoted per door after the survey, since door thickness and handing determine which locks will physically fit. Where several doors are done together the labour per door falls. No monthly fee is charged for managing your own codes.

Locks carry the manufacturer warranty and the mechanical override is tested at installation rather than assumed. Batteries are the routine maintenance item and typically last months, with warnings well before failure. If a lock stops responding, call the support line - and keep the override key somewhere other than inside the door it opens, which is advice we give at every handover for good reason.

Metal detectors

Quoted per unit and per entrance after the survey. The variables are the number of detection zones, the throughput required and whether backup power is included. Hand-held scanners are quoted separately, since most sites want them alongside an archway rather than instead of one.

Detectors drift out of calibration with use and should be checked periodically rather than only after a complaint. Settings are recorded at handover so they can be restored exactly after any service visit. Units carry the manufacturer warranty, and faults - false alarms, dead zones, or an archway that has stopped detecting on one side - are reported to the support line.
