A warning sign for an electric fence mounted on a razor wire perimeter

"How much is an electric fence per metre?" is one of the most searched fence questions in Kenya, and it is the one a responsible installer cannot answer from a desk. This guide gives the prices that are fixed, from our shop on 6 October 2026, and explains the parts that only a walk along your boundary can settle.

The energizer is the one part with a fixed price, from KES 19,000 in our shop. The per-metre figure depends on your wall, and a quote that skips the survey is guessing.

The energizer: the part with a fixed price

The energizer powers the fence and decides how long a perimeter it can hold. Our shop lists them from KES 19,000 to KES 75,000:

  • Nemtek Wizord 2KES 19,000
  • Lanstar P200KES 22,000
  • Druid 13LCDKES 22,500
  • Lanstar P500KES 23,000
  • Lanstar P1200KES 35,000
  • JVA MB8 mains and battery IP energizer (8 joules)KES 75,000

A bigger energizer is not automatically better. It should be matched to the length of the fence and the number of lines, with headroom for vegetation and the dry season, when earthing is at its weakest.

Alarms and accessories

  • Complete siren kitKES 2,400
  • Outdoor AC alarm siren hornKES 18,000
  • Gate handle with springKES 2,000
  • Flood gate controller, for where the fence crosses a drainKES 2,500

As an example, a Lanstar P200 with a siren kit is KES 24,400 in equipment. Our quotation adds labour at 30% of equipment and VAT at 16%, which takes that pair to KES 36,795 installed.

Why the per-metre price is not a number we will quote blind

The wire, insulators, brackets, posts and earth spikes are priced per metre of your actual boundary, and four things move that figure more than the materials do:

  • Wall-top or free-standing: brackets on an existing wall cost far less than a free-standing fence with its own posts and footings
  • Number of strands: a six-strand fence on a hundred-metre wall is six hundred metres of wire, so the strand count the survey sets multiplies the wire cost
  • Corners, gates and level changes, each of which needs strainers and extra work
  • Earthing: dry, rocky ground needs more earth spikes to make the fence work at all

This is why two quotations for the same wall can differ by half, which we explain in its own article. A figure given without anyone measuring the boundary either carries a margin for the unknowns or leaves them out and arrives later as an extra.

Compliance is part of the price

An electric fence in Kenya is a licensed installation, not a purchase. It has to be installed by someone licensed to do it and certified once it is done, with warning signs at intervals along its length. A cheaper quotation that leaves any of that out is not cheaper once the cost of doing it again is counted; our article on the fence and the law sets out what to ask for.

Getting your own figure

Our engineers measure the boundary, count the corners and gates and test the ground at a site survey, and the quotation that follows prices every metre. You can also price the energizer and alarm yourself in the quotation builder on this site.
