How to choose an internet provider in Nairobi (2026 guide)

Search for internet providers in Nairobi and you will find long lists ranking dozens of companies, several written by providers that put themselves at the top. We are an internet provider too, so read this with that in mind. What follows is the order we would make the decision in if we were buying, and it does not start with a brand.

Lists of the "best ISPs in Nairobi" rank companies. The better first question is which technology reaches your building, because that decides speed, reliability and price.

Step one: which technology reaches your building?

Four kinds of connection serve homes and offices in Nairobi, and they behave very differently:

  • Fibre: a glass cable to your building. The most stable speeds, low delay and little effect from weather or crowding, where it is available
  • Fixed wireless: a radio link from a mast to an antenna on your roof. Quick to install where fibre has not reached, but it needs a clear line of sight
  • Mobile 4G and 5G routers: no installation at all, but speeds rise and fall with how many people share the cell, and data is often sold in bundles
  • Satellite: works almost anywhere with a view of the sky, at a higher monthly price and with hardware to buy; our separate comparison with fibre covers it

If fibre reaches your building, it is usually the best value for a fixed home or office. If it does not, the choice is between the other three on reliability and cost.

Step two: check coverage at your address, not the estate

Coverage maps are drawn by estate, and buildings in the same estate are not equally served. Ask the provider to confirm your building, and prefer one that surveys the site before taking payment. Our own coverage is confirmed by a site survey before you commit, and our coverage pages list Nairobi by estate, stage and road.

Step three: compare what the price includes

  • Is the router included, or bought separately?
  • Is installation included, and what does it cover inside the house?
  • What is the upload speed, not just the download?
  • Is there a contract term, and what does leaving cost?
  • Is the price per month fixed, or an introductory rate?

Two packages at the same advertised speed can be very different products once these are answered. Our article with seven questions to ask an internet supplier goes further, and we answer every one of them about ourselves.

Step four: support, because outages happen to everyone

Every network has faults. What separates providers is how quickly a fault is answered and fixed. Ask what hours the support line keeps, whether faults are logged with a reference, and how long a typical repair takes. Ours stays open around the clock for existing clients.

Where we fit

Wave Fiber Technologies provides home fibre and WiFi from KES 1,500 a month across Nairobi and Mombasa, with business internet quoted on request. We also install CCTV, electric fencing and solar, so connectivity, security and power come from one company rather than three contractors. Whether we can serve your address is settled by the survey, before you have paid anything.
