Generator fuel management and monitoring

Fuel level monitoring, consumption reporting and theft detection for standby generators, for sites where the fuel bill is significant and nobody can say precisely where it goes.

What this is

Fuel level monitoring, consumption reporting and theft detection for standby generators, for sites where the fuel bill is significant and nobody can say precisely where it goes.

Generator fuel is one of the easiest operating costs to lose money on, because the tank is usually outdoors, filled by a third party, and consumed at a rate nobody measures. A sensor in the tank reporting level continuously turns that into something you can actually see: how much went in at each delivery, how much the generator burned per hour it ran, and whether the level ever fell while the generator was not running - which is the reading that matters most.

The reporting is where the value sits. Consumption per running hour, compared against what the generator should burn at that load, shows a machine drifting out of tune long before it fails. Sudden drops outside running hours trigger an alert at the time rather than appearing as an unexplained shortfall at the month end, when there is nothing left to investigate.

What is included

  • Continuous tank level monitoring with readings you can see remotely
  • Alerts on sudden drops outside generator running hours
  • Consumption per running hour, tracked against expected burn rate
  • Delivery verification, so you can confirm what was actually put in the tank
  • Low fuel warnings ahead of a refill rather than at empty

How it works

From first call to handover

  1. Site survey of the tank, the generator and how fuel is currently delivered

  2. Sensor specified and fitted to the tank, calibrated to its actual shape

  3. Monitoring and alerting configured with your thresholds

  4. Baseline consumption established over the first weeks of normal running

  5. Handover with reporting access and alert recipients set

Pricing

How this is billed

Quoted per tank after the survey. Tank shape and material determine which sensor suits, and calibration matters more than the hardware - an uncalibrated sensor on an irregular tank reports confidently wrong numbers. Sites with several generators are quoted together, since the reporting is shared.

After installation

Support and servicing

Sensors are calibrated against the tank rather than assumed from its stated capacity, and recalibration is part of servicing. Alerts are tested at handover so you know they arrive. Where readings start to look implausible, that is a support call - a monitoring system nobody trusts is one people stop reading, which defeats the point of installing it.

Questions

What people ask before booking

Will this tell me if fuel is being stolen?
It shows the tank level falling when the generator is not running, with a timestamp. That is the evidence that is otherwise impossible to obtain, and it is usually what prompts sites to install monitoring in the first place.
Does it work with our existing generator?
The monitoring is fitted to the tank rather than to the generator, so it works with most installations regardless of make or age. The survey confirms the tank can take a sensor and which type suits its shape.
Can we see the readings without being on site?
Yes, levels and alerts are available remotely, which is the point for anyone responsible for several sites. Alert recipients are set at handover and can be changed as staff change.
